The sample menu of pregnancy diet which you have to follow in your daily routine is as follows:

Breakfast:

  • 1 slice whole wheat toast with fruit spread
  • ½ cup oat meal with maple syrup
  • ½ cup calcium and vitamin D fortified orange juice
  • 1 cup soy milk

Snack:

  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup whole wheat bagel with margarine

Lunch:

  • Veggie burger on whole wheat bun with mustard and catsup
  • 1 cup steamed collard greens
  • 1 cup soy milk
  • 1 medium sized apple

Snack:

  • ¾ cup ready to eat cereal with ½ cup blue berries
  • 1 cup soy milk

Dinner:

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • ¾ cup tofu stir fried with 1 cup vegetables
  • 1 medium sized orange

Late night snack:

  • Whole grain crackers with 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 4 ounces apple juice

This food will give the necessary proteins and vitamins for you as well as for the baby in your womb. if you can’t able to drink raw soy milk 3 times a day, then go for flavored soy milk which makes you to feel comfortable while drinking with your favorite flavor.

The varieties of foods that you have to eat during pregnancy are:

Fruits and vegetables: Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (fresh, tinned, frozen, dried or a glass of juice). Keep aim to consume at least five portions of fruits each day.

Starch foods: In pregnancy diet, take plenty of starch foods which are high in calories such as pasta, bread, potatoes and rice. Try to choose the food with wholegrain.

Proteins: Don’t neglect the protein foods. The various foods which are rich in proteins are chicken, lean meat, egg, fish and pulses (such as lentils and beans). Among these various foods, try to take fish for at least twice a week including one of oily fish.

Fiber: Plenty of fiber is essential for you when you are pregnant. This fiber helps to prevent constipation. The various foods which are high in fiber are pasta, wholegrain bread, pulses, rice, fruits and vegetables.

Dairy foods: Dairy foods contain calcium in them. So, pregnancy diet should certainly consist of some dairy foods. The various dairy foods which are high in calcium are milk, yogurt and cheese.

Vitamins and minerals: The various vitamins and minerals that are essential during pregnancy diet are iron, folic acid, vitamin A and vitamin D.

The foods that should be avoided during pregnancy diet are:

  • Raw or Partially cooked eggs
  • Raw or uncooked meat
  • Pate
  • Some types of cheese
  • Supplements and liver products containing  vitamin A
  • Undercooked ready meals
  • Raw shellfish
  • Some types of fish

Try to avoid or reduce the consumption of alcohol.
